The crew of LaGalla23 set off for Shanghai to visit Reactivation, the Contemporary Art Biennial of 2012 curated by Qiu Zhijie and showing works by Boris Groys, Jens Hoffman, Chang Tsongzung Johnson and the first to be considered a Chinese biennial of international status by the art world.
The Biennial was installed in the former Nashi Power Plant power station, which had been transformed into the city’s new Museum of Contemporary Art. The documentary explores the City Pavilions in more detail. These were organised by Davide Quadrio, Francesca Girelli and Huang Mi. They offer a portrait of cities linked to the concept of “Reactivation”, which is also the theme of the biennial: Mumbai, Teheran, Mosca, Vancouver, Lyon, Los Angeles, Pittsburgh, Detroit… and the Italian city of Palermo.
